The Ohio Casino Control Commission announced Wednesday that the Cleveland casino will open the week of May 14, while Ohio’s second casino will open two weeks later in Toledo, in time for the Memorial Day weekend. Casinos also are planned in Cincinnati and Columbus in 2013.

“This is historic. This will be the first casino in the state of Ohio”, Marcus Glover (general manager of Cleveland’s new Horseshoe Casino) told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “We want to make sure that not only are we the first but we’re the best and we do it in the right way”.

“The actual opening dates will be decided later, based on discussions between the casino operators and regulators”, said Commission executive director Matt Schuler.

A great deal of work must be completed before either casino opens, including background checks, finalizing rules and regulations, issuing casino workers’ licenses, and testing slot machines.
